FreQee Photos

Here are some on the photos I took at FreQee last Friday night. The show is running until this Saturday, so there is still a chance to check it out.

There is some fantastic work on display.

Get Your FreQee On!

Tonight is the opening night for FreQee at the Brisbane Powerhouse.

Over 50 local and a few interstate artists have all contributed their interpretation of a bunee qee figure and from what I've seen so far there is some amazing work on show.

It looks like it promises to be a great night so come along if you are around town looking for something to do.

I'll try to remember my camera this year and I'll post some photos of the night.

Go to FreQee's Myspace page to see some of the hype.

Doing my bit for community radio

So anyway, it seems 4ZzZ like my submission and are going to use it in the advertising for their upcoming Radiothon.

I made a few changes to the original image to make it a poster format, like so...

4ZzZ have been the backbone in supporting a unique and rich music/art culture in Brisbane for the last Thirty years.

Eli & Mikey

Eli had to say goodbye to Mikey. They bonded in a way that only a four year old and an inanimate object can.

Mikey Macqee, In The Flesh

So anyway with the Freqee exhibition almost at our heels and that I've been seeing a few of the other artists designs, I thought I might as well show off my little guy..... my qee, that is.
Since finishing my Qee I have been thinking of how I could have done it differently. Although it is a bit busier than I expected, I don't think it's too bad for my first attempt.

The Freqee exhibition is at the Brisbane Powerhouse on Friday, August 31st.

Mikey (My Qee)

Having finished painting my Qee for the upcoming FreQee show way early and that I tend to have a problem with containing my patience at times, I've decided to post this photo.

I took the photo with the camera on my phone intentionally to make it crappy, cutting out a lot of detail. Then to further disguise it I very trickily made the photo a negative. My craftiness knows no end.

The Contents Of The Package

If you've read any of my previous post regarding The Package, you will know that it's a children's book I've been working on over the last year.

The story is about Barry who discovers a package that has fallen off the back of a truck and the adventure he has during his attempts to deliver the package to it's destination.

The mystery of the story is what's actually in the package? Here is a clue.....

If you really want to know what's in the package, you will have to wait for the book to come out.

T-Shirt Design

A friend of mine asked if I wanted to design a t-shirt for this project. I'm not exactly sure what the project involves, but www.tuhi.com.au should have some details up eventually.

The Machine

What is this Machine? What does it do?
If you want to know, you have to wait for me to finish the children's book I'm currently working on, titled The Package.
Yes, I have been working on this for a while now and yes, I've almost finished. I'm very happy at the way it is all piecing together. Not long now!

So It Goes, Kurt Vonnegut

Kurt Vonnegut passed away at the age of Eight-Four.
Vonnegut's amusing cynicism of human behaviour and imagination inspires me greatly, not only with my drawings and writing but when just generally thinking about life.
As a self described Humanist, therefore Atheist, Vonnegut once gave a eulogy for a fellow Humanist joking, "He's in heaven now". I'm sure Kurt would've made this comment with his own mortality in mind and appreciated the joke a second time round.
This obituary pretty much sums up Vonnegut's writing career and life.

Labyrinth Exhibition

Here are a couple of pieces I will be showing in the Labyrinth exhibition at CBD Gallery.
The show runs for two weeks beginning the 23rd of March. CBD Gallery is located at 3/99 Elizabeth St, Brisbane (above Govinda's restaurant).
I was going to show some other pieces as well but time kind of got away with me over the last few weeks and I ran out of time (as you probably guessed by my lack of posts).
Anyway, the CBD guys run a show a month so if this one goes well I might do some more. We'll see.

Flies TSB, Part Two

Finished.

Flies TSB, Part One

My latest TSB is located on the corner of Edward & Mary St in Brisbane.
I chose my Flies pic for this one for it's obvious city theme only I modified the sad green fly-like guys to busy eyed business men rushing along with their ties waving behind them.
I work on the same street and pass this box every day in the mad rush of the peak hour pedestrian traffic so I though this design was appropriate.
During the painting of this box I decided that setting up and painting in the middle of the city on a Friday gets you a lot of attention, mostly from crazies but the odd sane, nice person would comment or smile or whatever. And I now realize that pedestrians have no regard for witch's hats! C'mon people they're there for a reason!

With so many people rushing by I got a little distracted, but by the time I reached this stage it seemed to come together.
